Venison-A Ravishing and Healthy Cuisine
Food and nutrition is the basic necessity of human life. It is something for which a person works day and night. A food item should possess certain qualities like it should give a tang to the tongue along with nutrients to the body. People often fear obesity and avoid chicken and meat. Venison is being consumed from the stone age when hunting was one of the major source of food. It is a wonderful cuisine which is delicious as well as healthy with low fat content. It is usually derived from wild or farm-reared deer. It has a very fine texture which does half the work of a good presentation of the dish.
When it comes to the nutrition value, venison is an excellent source of protein and also rich in iron. Thus, it helps in overcoming the iron deficiency in menstruating or lactating women and in growing children. Iron is a major constituent of hemoglobin which helps oxygen to be transported to all parts of the body via blood. The most wonderful part is that its low fat content makes it good enough for consumption by calorie conscious people. At the same time, it helps in building muscle fibres. It is also a very good source of Vitamin-B, minerals, carbohydrates, sodium, amino acids and more.
Venison can be eaten in many forms viz. steaks, roasts, sausages, tournedos and minced meats. Many people prefer it over beef due to its comparatively lower price. Its increasing demand has led rise in deerfarms. Like other meats, it is also perishable and is kept under low temperature. Fresh and frozen venison is readily available in supermarkets. A few tips can be followed while selecting fresh meat; look for the meat which have darker, finely grained and whiter flesh as it has more exotic flavours. However, excessive intake can cause health problems too because of a substance called purine. Excess accumulation of purine leads to accumulation of uric acid in the body. Accumulated uric acid leads to formation of stone in kidney. Thus, excess intake of purine containing foods is not advisable.
Venison makes a wonderful meal and is remarkably easy to prepare. Whether a family dinner, or a gathering of friends, every special occasion can be made more special with this meal. Make it a part of your festive meal and it will soon make a place in the list of your favourite cuisines.
